Eli5, how is it that people can hear so well when are ears are full of wax?

Ears aren’t normally full of wax. The sides of the canal leading to the eardrum is just coated with it to trap dirt. If overproduction, often as a result of infection, fills the canal with wax heating certainly does deteriorate and it often has to be washed out.
