Honestly we don’t 100% know, but during sex the brain is releasing a lot of two chemicals, and some others, but mostly dopamine and oxytocin, which are both “happy chemicals”, the second is usually called the “love chemical” as it makes you feel in love and relaxed and warm. Both are being produced during sex, and as you near orgasm your body produces more and more oxytocin that make you feel warm and pleasurable until orgasm is achieved, a biological response in males from the hormones produced tells their prostate to contract and their testicles to release semen and sperm. Obviously, biologically female people don’t have this, but a female orgasm and pleasure is used to lubricate their vagina, and its believed the spasms from the orgasm help push sperm upwards, making it more likely to get impregnated. Once you orgasm, your brain sees its goal as completely and is now trying to deal with all these excess hormones, so it pumps out a few other hormones that make your brain stop producing those pleasure hormones so it can begin reabsorbing them so they’re not just sitting around clogging up brain activities. That’s why after an orgasm, you still have that relaxation from the oxytocin and pleasure and warmth, but it’s not as intense of a pleasure because the chemicals are going away, just leaving you feeling the after effects of them, which is mainly intensely relaxed and sleepy. A lot of this is highly debated, it’s a hard thing to study, but this is pretty well agreed on how it works.

Imagine it’s like being tickled, but rather than it being annoying and you unable to control the laughter, you enjoy it and want to hold that laughter in as long as possible.

Until you just can’t hold it anymore and burst out laughing. But then it takes a little while for you to get in the mood for more tickling.
