All plants have the ability to transfer resources throughout the plant. Otherwise, how would the roots not die of starvation? They don’t have any sugar of their own to metabolise. How would the water collected by the roots be used by the rest of the plant.
It’s a system not too different from your own circulatory system.
The peanuts begin growing above ground immediately after being fertilized. After that, the stem holding the growing peanut beings to droop until it touches the ground, and then they grow *into* the ground.
