eli5: if peanuts grow underground, how do the above-ground flowers pass the pollination to the underground seeds?

All plants have the ability to transfer resources throughout the plant. Otherwise, how would the roots not die of starvation? They don’t have any sugar of their own to metabolise. How would the water collected by the roots be used by the rest of the plant.

It’s a system not too different from your own circulatory system.
