[ELI5] TIL that algae produced about 60% of our planet’s oxygen. Is it possible then to have all of the trees gone and we would still be fine oxygen-wise?

The trees cool down the earth, they are a habitat and food for animals, food for us. They hold the soil so wind and water don’t erode it. It would work a year or two but not in the long run
