Eli5: What advantage does a virus have for making its host (humans) have a really sore throat? I understand a scratchy throat to induce coughing (to spread the virus) but why does it feel like I’m swallowing razor blades?

There doesn’t have to be an advantage. As long as it’s not a complete disadvantage the virus can continue to spread
