Eli5: What do people do in a bachelor or bachelorette party and does it always only involve single people

Whatever they want to do and no, they are generally just friends of the bride and groom. Married or not has absolutely nothing to do with it. It’s just the friends they want to celebrate with.
Like for my brother-in-laws bachelor party we sat around playing cards and drank a little. Then the next morning we all went and played a round of golf.
