That its time making laws is over. Typically this means an election to gather a new set of members to sit in a new parliamentary term.

In Britian The King , and in his other realms the Governors – General dissolves the parliament. In practical terms the houses stop sitting and thus the capacity of them to make laws also ceases. This triggers the GG to issue writs for a general election, the end result of which is the [re] elected members of parliament begin a new term in office after the parliament is formally opened by the King or the Governors -General.
