A miscarriage is when a baby less than 20 weeks dies. There’s a number of reasons this can happen, but usually there is no cause found. There are 3 types of miscarriage

Complete miscarriage, where the woman’s body naturally and completely passes the “products of conception”. Could be like a heavy period if she is very early on, or passing a fully formed baby

Incomplete miscarriage, where the woman starts bleeding and passes some or most of the products of conception but not all

Missed miscarriage, where the baby dies but there is no bleeding. These are usually picked up at routine ultrasounds, or if the woman has cramping pain with no bleeding.

In the case of incomplete or missed miscarriages, the woman can wait and see if everything passes, or take medication to force her uterus to contract more and expel the remaining products, or have surgery (dilatation and curette) to suction out the uterus

Body sheds endometrium with attached egg, flushes it out via the vagina.

It’s just a period
