In the literal sense, what is it? I googled it for too long as my canker sore sat there laughing at me and bothering me with it’s annoying pain. By what is it, I mean what’s it made of, if that makes sense. Like a pimple, for example, is a collection of dead cells and bacteria that gets clogged in your pores, so…. what exactly is a canker sore?

A canker sore is an ulcer, a section of the mucous membranes of your mouth that has been broken down, exposing the underlying tissue. The causes aren’t entirely known, but they are thought to be at least partially caused by an immune response, possibly reacting to irritation as if the area were under attack by bacteria.
