Eli5: what is the difference between regular weed and delta 8 thc?

Delta 8 is derived from cbd, making it mostly legal anywhere cbd is legal.
Think of it like alcohol; weed would be liquor while delta 8 would be beer. Delta 8 still gets you high, but it’s a different high and it takes more to do the job. While weed is tried and true
“Regular weed” has a bunch of different cannabinoids in it, including CBD, Delta 9 THC (the federally illegal stuff that gets you high) and Delta 8 THC (which also can get you high). Delta 8 and CBD are not federally illegal, so they are isolated from the Hemp plant and sold legally because they don’t contain the illegal Delta 9 (or at least not enough of it to be illegal). There really is no such thing as delta 8 weed, but some shady companies will spray isolated delta 8 on hemp and sell it as d8 bud.
As for the effects; delta 8 is a milder high than typical THC, but it is still quite psychoactive (unlike CBD.)
