pretty much the same as why we all have a unique appearance. a mix of genetics, body composition, and personality can kinda play into it too.
the change that happens when imitating voices is a few things. we can change where we project the sound from (mouth, upper throat, lower throat), our mouth shape, and I’m pretty sure we manipulate our vocal chords too.
then with practice, we can learn how to manipulate these things to sound like other people. impressionists can do an amazing job of this.
