eli5: what will happen if you have pain(like broken bone) and you don’t take pain killers? how body and brain will react/adjust?

It hurts. And you move it less. Source; broke my elbow and collar bone in 20 places last year and only took pain killers for 5 days then just some aspirin for another 5.
