(ELI5) when babies are raised with bilingual families, are they learning it as just one jumbled language, or as two separate languages?

Also would it become difficult to discern and seperate them when they join school for example, and interact with people that only speak one

Depends on the parent. But mostly both. U end up with this messy part where the kid speaks both languages at the same time and subs in words from one language to the other. As an example they might say “I want chips” but chips is in the other language and the rest in english
