Eli5: when massive regions flood, what happens to the small wildlife like rodents and lizards?

Question

Considering most of those small animals are lower on the food chain, when storms like Helene come through, it would devastate the ecosystem if all small animals drown. Obviously Florida (and other flooded areas for that matter) don’t suffer a collapse of wildlife every time a flood hits, so what gives? Do the rodents just swim for it? Climb trees?
