Eli5: When short-sighted people stand next to a mirror that is in an open space, do they see it clearer than just looking at that space, because the light is closer to the eyes?

Nah, you still see a certain distance and since the things behind you are still ‘further’ away you can’t see what’s there however here is a little lesson in trickery: If you are like me and sometimes too lazy to put on your glasses but want to read sth that is beyond your sight limits just grab a phone, switch on the camera, zoom to the thing you want to see or read and read it from the display. Works perfectly up until the image gets grainy because of the digital zoom.
