eli5: Why are red dot sights red?

I know they can come in green but why is red the predominant color for them?

Red contrasts well against a green field, and the color works well with the coatings that are typically used on the optics

Red lights take less time for your eyes to adjust to darkness. Thats why military exercises at night are often done in red lit rooms. So your eyes don’t have to adjust as much when you step outside.

Same as why you can see infrared better against green in night vision goggles. Red trains in becoming more focused on our eyesight.
