ELi5 why did we get goose bumps

Goose bumps don’t really do much for us because we don’t have much hair on our bodies.
For animals with full body hair/fur, goose bumps pull all of that hair/fur upright. This makes it easier to trap a thick layer of air around them to act as a blanket and keep them warm. Upright hair/fur can also make them look bigger when they need to scare something away.
