Eli5: Why do candles flicker?

I have no idea. Is it wind currents? Is it fuel availability?

The flame tends to dance due to air currents, some caused by the candle and some not. In addition, sometimes the fuel/wick is has something mixed in that can get sucked into the flame and cause brief changes in brightness.
