eli5 why do cuts from glass cause you to bleed so much?

I just cut my finger pretty good on some rogue glass shard and so far 15 minutes has passed and the bleeding is far larger than what you’d think would be from a finger. I’ve been cut plenty of times on my fingers before but somehow it always seems glass has a knack for making you gush, why is that?

A cut from a glass shard is very messy compared to a knife for example. This means, that the wound has a comparatively large surface area, hence many blood vessels are damaged and leaking.
