eli5 Why do humans sometimes only recognize a pattern in their peripheral?

Strange.

Only thing I could find on this is Kaleidoscopic vision, which is a medical condition where you see small colorful particles in your peripheral vision.

IMO consult a doctor.

P.S.: If by pattern, you meant seeing objects which aren’t really there, it usually happens because your peripheral vision is limited, and your brain tries to make sense of it with regards to things you already know about. So if we both are facing in the same direction, my peripheral vision might be seeing something completely different as compared to yours. This is somewhat like that Rorschach test in which they draw butterflies and stuff with ink and ask you to guess what is it that you are seeing.
