Eli5 Why do we rarely laugh at comedy tv/film when on our own, but laugh often when we have company?

I suppose it’s psychological, you are more likely to laugh when everyone else does So you know you aren’t weird (Extra simplified). Added laughs have simillar effect.
Also your company may be funny And add some jokes related to show.
