I understand why salt is needed, to dry out the sore and heal it. My doctor said: “gargle with salt water that is as warm as you can handle without burning yourself?” Why was the “warm” aspect of this emphasized so much?
Heat makes things to expand and stretch out. Including skin cells (or rather: pores). If they’re open wide, it’s easier to get water (and anything else) out. It also energizes blood flow and soothes, which help to heal as well. That’s pretty much how saunas work.
