Eli5: Why do we yell or scream when in pain

Question

Why when we get hurt like hitting ourselves accidently or getting punched.. basically physical pain we scream or yell or groan? Ive always wondered as it feels like it lessen the pain but id like to understand the whole process behind why it is like that. Thanks

Humans are just animals with anxiety. When animals feel pain, it’s usually because something is attacking them. A loud yell might either scare their attacker away, or summon help.
