When we are doing something boring like reading a book or attending a boring lecture or watching a boring documentary, why does our mind zone out? What actually happens inside and please explain like I’m 5.
Your brain is disassociating. My brain does this for a lot of reasons, such as
Trauma. When you physically can’t leave-your brain plays pretend

Your awake brain wants stimuli. If the topic doesn’t interest you, it drifts towards things that do. Or you could just have ADHD. 🤷🏼♂️

The brain is expensive energywise. One of its main conscious functions is detecting difference. When what the brain is observing doesn’t change much it tends to shut down a bit to save on gas.
