Why are so many humans (myself included) afraid of spiders? Arachnophobia consistently lands in the top 10 most-common phobias. Why? Especially when there aren’t *that* many deadly species of them? Why spiders over other animals?

Short answer: because spiders are so common.
Extended answer: if there were as many clowns as there were spiders the number of people with that phobia would surely skyrocket.
They’re creepy and scary looking. Also, something doesn’t need to be deadly to still harm you.
