Eli5: why is ultraviolet light visible on a flashlight?

Or are we only seeing the higher frequency lights from the flashlight?

You must be referring to UV flashlights… these emit some lower frequencies (violet) which are visible to humans.

Humans can typically only see UV if they are missing the lens portion of the eye.

We can’t see higher frequencies than UV without equipment.
