Eli5:Why does hand sanitizer have bubbles?

Probably got caught in the gel when it was poured into the bottle. Because it’s a thick gel, the air can’t travel up so easily like in water. The viscosity is higher

There was gas in the bottle when they were filling it.
Not all that gas got out.
The hand sanitizer is not flowy enough to let the gas escape.

The bubbles are added to make the product look more attractive/interesting. You can see this with some other kinds of personal care products, such as hair gel, etc. The bubbles are not needed to make the sanitizer effective and they aren’t produced by some chemical reaction in the sanitizer. Also, if you keep a bottle of sanitizer that has bubbles in it for a long time, the bubbles will eventually disappear (this can take years though).
