Not only in human patients, but more commonly used in plants and microorganisms. Usually CRISPR/CAS is used to edit the DNA to add or alter certain genes to change the output of certain proteins etc.

You also can’t just randomly change any sequence within the DNA, you CRISPR/Cas always needs a certain succession of „letters“ – like a postman needs an address to deliver the package to the right person.
