Great White Shark redirect

So, after watching a cameraman redirect a GWS with his hand on another sub, I am curious about how this works. Did he boop it hard or simply push it away? How do we think a shark psychologically perceives this in comparison to edible prey in order to not make an exploratory bite? Does this work on all sharks and does a shark’s hunger level impact the effectiveness of the camera man’s actions?

no real force at all. its like if a dog is sniffing your leg, just pushing its head away weakly. if it was going to try to attack you, it would.

Psychologically for the shark, it was probably like bumping into something and it decided to go off to the side where it wouldn’t be rubbing up against the camera man.

Obviously this wouldn’t work if the shark were actively looking to eat you.

Another side note: it’s less like he pushed the shark away but used the shark to push himself out of the way. That shark is way more massive than he could’ve ever been, so it wouldn’t move very much with a push.
