Hormone triggers are responsible for burning fat, right? Why aren’t there drugs that exploit and supercharge this process?

Proper exercise is hard to come by, when your back is basically broken. I want to pop some Notbuprofen and feel the burn as the pounds melt away.

In theory, a drug that stimulates the hormones that demand the burning of fat *should* be possible. Why isn’t it, and/or why has no one made this yet?

What about a drug <cough>ozempic</cough> that mimics a natural hormone that triggers the sensation of fullness and slows digestion, causing you to eat less? Because we have those. They are called GLP-1 receptor agonists. They activate the GLP-1 receptors in the pancreas, muscles, and the brain.

Also, there is evidence that they affect the reward center of the brain, improving impulse control for certain addictive behaviors.

Hormones do many things. Easier to affect the more predictable aspects of human metabolism to achieve the same end goal (appetite suppressors, etc).

That’s pretty much what an ECA stack is. It’s like meth light. I don’t recommend it for numerous health reasons.

The short answer is because it is basically impossible or incredibly unhealthy or dangerous to increase metabolism or calories burned enough to make up for lousy eating habits. It’s far safer to work on the calories in side of the equation by suppressing appetite.

Even with people who have the ability to exercise intensely can’t exercise away enough calories to result in any meaningful weight loss if they are still eating like crap. Outside of elite level athletes the most you’re going to be burning when you’re working out it’s between 3 and 400 calories an hour which is less than half of say a single Big Mac.

I know you didnt ask for this but i would suggest trying out fasting and dont know what food you eat but i recently got diagnosed with prediabetes and changing my diet plus extending my non-eating hours have done wonders getting me back in shape without an excessive amount of exercise. A bit still helps but i dont know your sitiuation and how much of anything you can do. Hope its just a temporary thing and you do better soon!

Like others have mentioned we dont just “burn” fat – it has to go somewhere so giving the body some time to actually use up the energy we feed it helps quite a bit. Eating more natural whole foods coupled with the fasting has almost deleted the feeling of hunger for me and i feel so much better and -10 kgs in just a few months.

Bodybuilders take Cytomel, a thyroid hormone that does exactly this. The problem is that it atrophies your thyroid gland and reduces its overall function after extended use.

Because all the drugs which were meant to drive fat loss by supercharging or tricking your metabolism failed to deliver enough of an effect to help an actual obese person cut tens of pounds (rather than helping a bodybuilder cut 2 extra pounds at the end of a fat loss phase before a competition) while being reasonably safe.

There is a reason why the only class of safe and effective weight loss drugs like Ozempic work primarily by making you eat less by manipulating your sensation of hunger and satiety. You have to fuck with how the body works way too much to make *calories in vs calories out* no longer work.

Fat is how our body stores energy. When we need the energy we burn the fat, like how a car burns gas.

When your car burns gas, it’s using the energy to move. If you burn gas in a puddle, without the moving car to use up the energy, you get a big fire as all the energy in the gas is released as heat and light.

If your body just started burning fat without you doing anything with that energy, you’d get super hot and quickly die of a fever.

Burning fat is a really complicated process. You can’t just flip the ‘burn fat’ switch and have that happen without any other side effects. There are all kinds of attempts, but they aren’t successful as our hormones are in charge of so many things, our energy usage is so tightly linked, that there’s no easy way to “just” burn extra calories without risking all kinds of other wild side effects.
