how a large fly can “come back to life” after sub-freezing temperatures in the midst of winter.

It’s 4 degrees in Minnesota right now. I got to my heated deer hunting stand around about 6:30. I cranked up the heat and by around 7:30, a fly landed on me. It’s probably 80-85 degrees in here now. How is that possible? The heater is never on when I’m not here. I thought cold weather would kill flys, and this is not a newly hatched fly, it’s a big one.

House flies store fat and produce a natural antifreeze before hibernating.

They aren’t dead and warmth will wake them up.

If you ever see a fly on it’s back in the winter… it might not be dead.
