How and/or why are grapes NOT considered to be berries?

They are though, they are considered to be true berries because the fruit wall is fleshy all the way to the seed.

They are berries, *botanically.*

We use two different sets of classification regarding edible parts of plants, however: botanical and culinary.

Grapes are not considered berries, cullinarily.

The same applies to the banana and the avacado. Botannically berries, but not cullinarily berries.

And Raspberries and Strawberries? Cullinarily berries, but botanically not berries.

Tomato and eggplant are botanically berries, but cullinarily vegetables.

So it really depends on which classification system you’re using, botanical or cullinary.
