How Bathroom Fans Work

Do the bad bathroom smells immediately get vented outside or do they become part of the circulating air in the home?

Normally, a bathroom fan should be vented directly outdoors, usually through a small pipe and up through the roof. Some bathrooms though only vent into the attic. This is not good as all of the moisture from showers and baths get trapped in the attic with the insulation. But no, other than what lingers and escapes under the door crack or through the open door, the bathroom fan is not connected to the rest of the household vents.
