How bioluminescent works? Could humans possibly use it in the future?

We already use it now! There is a DNA sequencing technology (DNA sequencing is reading the strand of DNA) called pyrosequencing that relies on the same enzyme that fireflies use to light up. We pair this with some complicated chemical reactions to construct a system that flashes a little bit of light every time a base pair is added to the DNA strand (a base pair is the name for the four letters that comprise DNA: A, T, C, & G)
