How can a hacker hijack a live broadcast or program?

Things like Live TV, or the broadcast or big events. How can someone hijack such a transmission? Does it have to occur at the site, or can it be done remotely?
How can someone broadcast something else in place of what was originally being broadcasted? Is it also possible to only hijack and change sound, but not video?

It can occur at any intermediary point: on-site, the satellite van, satellite downlink station, local affiliate broadcasting, neighborhood cable junction…

Think of the broadcast like water in a pipe. Any place that you can access the pipe, you can change what is flowing through it.

This happens all the time when a local affiliate will “preempt” the scheduled broadcast for some local breaking news.

You need to have compatible broadcast equipment tied into the system.

Sure.
