If the solar panel connected to the battery supplies less energy over the course of a day than the load connected to the battery consumes, then the battery will be depleted.
If the battery has insufficient capacity to power the load over the course of multiple days without direct sunlight, it will also be depleted.
Batteries of all kinds also degrade over time and will start losing capacity regardless of what you do.
