Taste is very much linked to smell. So when you’re burping you’re actually smelling the food again more than you’re tasting it. Next time you burp, plug your nose and you will barely taste it. What little you do taste will be from the aromatics that originally came off the food and gave it it’s smell. These compounds can stimulate the tastebuds the same as though more weakly than physical contact with food.
