How could oil dissolve glue?

I removed the sticker from something I bought and tried to get rid of the glue residue. I gave it a good acetone rub but that just spread it around. Then I tried alcohol; the result was the same. Eventually I put a few drops of vegetable oil (I was trying everything at that point) and that cleaned it with ease.
What happened? Why did the oil clean the glue from the sticker (that couldn’t be cleaned with acetone or alcohol)?

Simply put, like dissolves like. The solubility(ability to dissolve in) of the glue is oil based.
