How did FBI know The Unabomber was a single person?

He wrote all the messages as Freedom Club, speaking in plural using “we”.

Despite that, they called him “The unabomber” even before identifying him. How did they know it was just one guy from the beginning and not a group?

Before his identity was known, the FBI used the case identifier UNABOM (University and Airline Bomber) to refer to his case, which resulted in the media naming him the “Unabomber”.

Bomb makers leave individual signatures on how they make a bomb, multiple bombers out of the same factory will leave different signatures even if they use the same materials and set up.

He purposely left clues to encourage investigators to think multiple people were involved, but nothing he *did* suggested the need for more than one person, so maybe they went with the simplest and most typical scenario: one guy with a grudge, a mission, a fixation.
