How did Helen Keller understand and conceptualise non-tangible words?

Question

I understand how it was possible for her to learn and associate words which can be perceptualised by touch such as such as water or food, but it seems impossible to learn and fully understand the concept of things such as poverty and war.

How did you understand intangible concepts? They were explained to you. Helen Keller had to use a different language than you use, but her mind was superior to yours. She graduated magna cum laud from Radcliffe.
