Among other things, the moon stabilizes the earth’s rotation.
Earth’s axial tilt changes over a cycle of 40.000 years, but only a little bit: Its currently at 23.5° and will always be between 22.1° and 24.5°.
Without the moon, these fluctuations would be MUCH bigger, resulting in a much worse ice age cycle. Considering that our regular ice ages already buried much of North America and Eurasia under a mile of ice, which by the way also changed the sea level by more than a hundred meters, a moonless ice age becomes hard to imagine.
