How do beekeepers not get stung?

935 viewsBiologyOther

I just saw a video of a woman not wearing any sort of suit or protective clothing moving a whole beehive, and even going as far as scooping up bees with her hands. I always feel like anytime I’m even close to a bee I might get stung. How do they avoid it?

Remember that half the stories about aggressive bees are mislabled yellow jacket hornet confrontations.

Some bees are more docile than others.

Some bees, more often Southern bees, were accidentally introduced to Africanized bees and they are very much more aggressive.

Using a smoker distracts bees so they focus on fears of forest fire and not the beekeeper moving things around. Imagine 40,000 insects snatching up their prepper go-bag (filling honey sacks) to head for the hills with the queen. They are not worried about someone moving the lawn furniture.
