How do hangovers work?

what is the science behind it? how can you get symptoms of sickness without actually being sick? why does your body respond that way?

Your body responds like you’re sick because you *are* actually sick. Alcohol itself is poisonous, but so are the chemicals your body turns it into (like acetaldehyde) during the process of breaking it down. The hangover symptoms are mostly due to your body trying to clear out the poison.
