How do humidifiers add moisture to an entire room?

They’ve got an intake vent, an output vent, and a fan. Dry air is sucked in, water vapour is added, humid air is blown out. The “whole room” bit happens naturally, just by virtue of how the air tends to diffuse around all over in a closed space, and this happens until the moisture level is roughly equal everywhere.

(eta: To be more precise, some humidifiers add water *vapour*, ie steam, and some others work by spraying a very finely atomized water mist into the air, which – if the humidity is low – should turn into vapour before too long anyway.)
