How do mushrooms (of any kind) help with brain function and Neuroplasticity?

I have always heard about (and been interested in, so I probably have a slight bias) about Mushrooms helping with memory, attention, and a slew of other benefits.

I’ve tried to read study’s and papers, but have a hard time understanding the terminology. I’m also a bit weary of certain researchers or advocates of this because just about everybody cherry picks data to suit whatever brand or idea that they’re discussing.

I’d like to know a bit more about mushrooms effect on the brain (whether the halluciongenic or other) – and specifically the longer lasting effects.

It releases more neurotransmitters, the little chemicals that tell your brain what to do. Glutamate, serotonin and dopamine all excite the neurons in a big way but glutamate in particular is believed to be the driving force behind neuroplasticity.

Our brains are always changing and re-wiring, but the interaction of psilocybin in the brain just speeds it up. If you have very few synaptic connections in comparison to our own (like a bug) that is going to fuck up your day big time. For us though it’s a breeze.
