How do paleontologists know how dinosaur skin was patterned?

Yeah i think that they basically just make a guess about what the skin may have looked liked based on factors that may contribute to a species survival e.g. camoflauge. They may also use reptiles that are alive today because they are probably a good indication of what the skin of dinosaurs may have been like.
