How do pharma companies know all of the possible side effects that could happen from taking their meds? What is done to minimize the number of side effects a medicine can cause? How are they passed by the FDA with all of those side effects?

There are human trials prior to public sale. Sometimes they know likely side effects simply by how the drug works, others come out in those trials. Hell sometimes the unexpected side effect becomes the primary effect in market, viagra wasn’t developed to do what it does.
