How do phone apps that pay you to play work? Are they any safe? My guess is no, but I’m still curious.

Any “we pay you to use our app” is generally just getting paid more to show you ads than they pay out to the user. Its a legit business model. I can’t say if the companies behind these games are doing anything sketchy, but the model itself is nothing wrong.

They are usually safe, the payment only goes though the play/app store, and then the Store tells the app you bought the thing and lets you use, and the app does stuff, it’s pretty safe considering it has to comply with the store regulations. However this doesn’t mean there aren’t scams like apps that use 80$/month for a garbage service

Usually by paying out really low amounts per play and inundating you with ads. So for example you get a $5 amazon gift card for 5,000,000 points, and each ad you watch gets you 50 points. Yes they pay, but by that point you’ve watched so the same ad so many times (they only seem to have about five that rotate through) that you can feel your brain oozing out of your ears when you get that gift card
