How do phone game ads get away with blatant lies?

I see so many phone game ads online and the ad is often not at all reflective of the actual game. Isn’t this false advertising?

There are several reasons why mobile games have their … special … reputation.

– If there is no one suing them, then there will be no judge …
– Many countries have unclear laws and/or the laws are simply outdated.
– In many cases you will find a microscopic *”content shown does not represent actual gameplay”*, explaining that the ad is just a symbolic representation of the intended gameplay.
– Ads have creative liberties. Red Bull does not give you actual wings to fly around, it is just a symbolic representation of the feeling when you drink it. There is a fine line between creative representation and false advertising and the latter is usually targeting not on the commercial itself, but on hard numbers. Like when it´s not the ad itself, but “this is a screenshot of the game” or “it does not have micro transactions” etc.

I’ve noticed in ‘fishdom’ the ads they show are added as a ‘minigame’ even though it’s nothing like the regular gameplay. Maybe others do it that way as well? It’s hard regulating these things. They try but then the developers just find other ways.

What law do you believe they have broken?

Most truth in advertising laws regard to the ads that display a product for sale fraudulently. However, the games are free (you pay for some reduction in time tied to game activities).

Basically because they aren’t selling you a product, it’s free so they aren’t covered by laws regarding sales and advertising. The microtransactions aren’t free but they aren’t the product being advertised just a part of it.

Most of the ones I’ve seen are random Chinese developers that are already on the edge completely copying someone else’s IP why should they care about the ad’s being legit? They just want you to download the app and get paid from forcing you to watch an ad every 30 seconds.
